Rockwell Collins helps inspire women in engineering event

  • Nan Mattai serves as honorary co-chair for 24-hour Global Marathon event

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 08, 2010) - Nan Mattai, senior vice president of engineering and technology for  Rockwell Collins, will be a featured presenter in the sixth annual Global Marathon, hosted by the National Engineers Week Foundation, on March 10 and 11. The event features women in engineering and technology from all over the world who will gather to celebrate and promote engineering.

Mattai and Leslie Jones, senior vice president and chief information officer of Motorola, Inc., are serving as honorary chairs of the 24-hour global event. Mattai hosted a kickoff event at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago on Feb. 25, and is also presenting a segment on Rockwell Collins' approach to the challenges facing women in the engineering field.

"Women are still underrepresented in engineering and technology, yet they have so much to offer," said Mattai. "The Global Marathon provides young women with access to role models who have been successful in their fields and who are eager to share their stories."

The Global Marathon, targeted to college-age and professional women, as well as young women in middle and high school, features 48 activities, including webcasts, live events, Internet chats, teleconferencing and pre-recorded sessions. All will be available to a worldwide audience.
